Mount Gede and Pangrango were two of the first five parks in Indonesia to be designated as national parks. With a total size of 15,196 ha, it is located in the districts of Bogor, Cianjur, and Sukabumi. From Jakarta, it is the most accessible mountain to climb. A calm rainforest, a self-guided trail, and a breathtaking view of West Java may be found about 2 hours south of Jakarta and 5 to 6 hours of hiking.

Gede, at 2958 meters above sea level (asl), and Pangrango, at 3019 meters above sea level (asl), are the two volcanoes that make up the national park. A high saddle known as Kandang Badak, at 2400 meters above sea level, connects the two summits. The steep mountain sides are carved by fast-moving streams that form huge valleys and long ridges. The view from the peak of Mount Gede is stunning for those who are fortunate enough to be there in clear weather.

Some people have claimed to be able to see the Java Sea to the north and the Indian Ocean to the south, including Raffles. Climbers with excellent eyesight or "imagination" have occasionally spotted Sumatra to the west! Mount Pangrango has fewer landscapes than Mount Gede, but it has more flora.

Sunset at Mt. Gede's peak Mount Gede can be reached via a variety of roads or walking pathways. The path from Cibodas, the path from Gunung Putri, and the path from Selabintana are the safest and most popular. Because the hike from Selabintana is a little more demanding, many climbers opt for the Cibodas and Gunung Putri routes. |
